If you have just joined Twitter welcome to the Twittersphere! Rest assured that whilst it may seem a bit daunting to start with, once you start to follow people that interest you (this is important) you will start to engage in very interesting conversations. If you prefer you can initially simply follow others who are doing so and this is fine. As you add people you wish to follow, you will see that their tweets provide you with links to websites, photos and videos on topics of interest you share. In the event someone is not interesting unfollow them. In the event you are followed by someone you don’t like you can block them.
You can find more information about using Twitter by going to the Twitter tab at the top of this page or via this link: http://socialmedia4us.wordpress.com/twitter/Everyone has a Twitter name or handle. Mine is @suebecks.
It is helpful to others when choosing your handle to keep it succinct so it will be easy for your followers to remember.
In March 2012 Twitter celebrated it’s 6th birthday. One of the founders Jack Dorsey sent this tweet. This will give you a sense of the numerous conversations taking place!
It’s 12:50. Happy 6th Birthday @twitter. From 1 tweet to over 1 billion every 3 days. I’m so proud of our users and our team.
— Jack Dorsey (@jack) March 21, 2012
Below is an infographic where Twitter data has analysed and then visualised. The infographic was created by Diffbot who analysed 750,000 links within tweets posted to Twitter. The most popular links we share are images followed by articles and then videos.
